Infelizmente, não o fez por causa do Editorial do NYT sobre o seu "novo" plano para o Iraque.
Mas bem o podia ter feito.
O editorial começa assim:

President Bush told Americans last night that failure in Iraq would be a disaster.
The disaster is Mr. Bush’s war, and he has already failed.
Last night was his chance to stop offering more fog and be honest with the nation, and he did not take it.

Também não foi pelas reacções da maioria dos 21 senadores da Comissão do Senado que estiveram a ouvir e a inquirir Condoleezza Rice sobre aquele mesmo plano do Presidente Bush para o Iraque.

Mas bem o podia ter sido.

O presidente da Comissão resumiu assim as reacções dos senadores:

"I think what occurred here today was fairly profound, in the sense that you heard 21 members, with one or two notable exceptions, expressing outright hostility, disagreement and or overwhelming concern with the presidents proposal,"

Nem sequer foi pelas reacções individuais daqueles senadores.
Mas bem o podia ter sido.
Eis exemplos de algumas delas:

"Why put more American lives on the line now in the hope that this time theyll make the difficult choice?"

Foi durante a cerimónia de atribuição da segunda "Medalha de Honra" desta longa e cruenta sua guerra do Iraque.

Guerra, em que ele, Presidente Bush, decerto, não se sai com medalha.

E é cada vez mais provável, que não venha a sair com honra.

Early in the day, in an emotional ceremony at the White House, Mr. Bush awarded the Medal of Honor to the family of Cpl. Jason Dunham, a marine from Scio, N.Y., who was killed in Iraq in 2004 when he threw himself on a grenade to save the rest of his unit. The president began crying during the ceremony. It was the second Medal of Honor proceeding to come out of the Iraq war.
